Nigeria's healthcare sector is entering a new era, one where local manufacturing is becoming a cornerstone of a stronger, more resilient healthcare system.
A significant milestone in that journey was marked on June 9, announcing a local manufacturing partnership designed to strengthen Nigeria's healthcare value chain.
More than a partnership announcement, this initiative represents a shared vision for expanding local manufacturing capabilities, improving access to quality diagnostic solutions, and supporting long-term healthcare sustainability across Nigeria.
For decades, many essential healthcare commodities used across Africa have relied heavily on imported supply chains. While these products have served important needs, dependence on external manufacturing often exposes healthcare systems to supply disruptions, longer lead times, and fluctuating costs.
The Afrimedical-Abbott collaboration aims to change that.
By combining Abbott's global expertise in healthcare technologies with Afrimedical's local manufacturing capabilities, the partnership is designed to support domestic production while strengthening Nigeria's capacity to manufacture critical healthcare products locally.
The manufacturing activities will be based at Afrimedical's facility in Ogun State.
The Afrimedical-Abbott collaboration reflects a common commitment to strengthening healthcare systems through innovation, local capacity building, and strategic partnerships.
For Afrimedical, the partnership aligns with its mission of advancing local manufacturing while improving healthcare access across Nigeria.
For Abbott, it reinforces a long-standing commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare technologies and supporting stronger healthcare systems globally.
Together, both organizations are contributing to a future where more healthcare solutions can be manufactured within Nigeria, supporting both patients and healthcare professionals through improved availability and sustainable production.
